CLAREMORE, Okla. – Two Rogers State student-athletes were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic Baseball and Softball All-District Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, released Thursday.

Hillcat baseball pitcher Casey Cassity and softball outfielder Katrina Loy were named to their respective squads in the College Division of District 7 which includes student-athletes from Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

Loy joins three other SAC outfielders on the academic all-district team as the junior Business Management major tallied a remarkable 3.94 GPA in the classroom. The Claremore, Okla. native had an impressive season on the field as well with a .271 batting average as the Hillcats everyday left fielder. Loy hit seven homeruns this season and 30 RBI with nine doubles. In the field she has a .846 fielding percentage.

Loy was a member of a team of RSU students that finished in the top five during the initial interview round of the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup. The RSU team was the only undergraduate team to earn such distinction as they participated in interviews having to defend their business plans as it simulates the real-world process of soliciting a business plan to potential investors. Last season former Hillcat Sarah Harvey was named NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete, Loy marks the second straight year a Hillcat softball player has earned academic honors.

Cassity was one of three pitchers named to the team; all three were from the Sooner Athletic Conference. A native of Barnsdall, Okla., Cassity holds a 3.53 GPA as an Accounting major as a junior. The southpaw holds a 3-1 record for RSU in 25.2 innings pitched having started four of his eight appearances this season. Cassity had one complete game this season and tallied a 3.16 ERA for the Diamond Cats who have totaled a 42-14 record this year. He is the second RSU baseball player to earn an academic award in as many years as teammate Drew Taylor was named a Daktronics NAIA Baseball Scholar Athlete last season.

Loy and Cassity were two of four student-athletes recognized at the 2012 RSU Athletic Banquet for their Academic Excellence.
