A record number of Rogers State University student-athletes received bachelor degrees at Saturday’s 2010 commencement ceremony. Twenty-two former student-athletes representing the baseball, softball, basketball, soccer and rodeo programs participated in RSU’s 98th commencement at the Claremore Expo. The former Hillcat athletes made up more than seven percent of 2010 class of bachelor degree recipients. Twenty earned degrees from RSU while two others obtained degrees through the RSU/Cameron University education program. “We are extremely proud of the academic achievements of these young men and women,” said RSU Athletic Director Wren Baker. “We’ve instituted a number of initiatives to ensure the academic success of our athletes and will continue to work to provide them with the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. Ultimately, it’s the responsibility of each individual to dedicate themselves to achieve their academic goals and this group is to be commended for their efforts.” More than 40 former RSU student-athletes have obtained bachelor degrees since the implementation of athletics in 2006. The list of 2010 graduates includes seven former members of the baseball program, five softball players, four men’s basketball players, and two each from women’s basketball, men’s soccer and rodeo.
