WACO, Texas – Rogers State senior Candace Monigold garnered Heartland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week honors following a superb week leading the Hillcats to a five-game winning streak.
The Broken Arrow, Okla., product recorded a .429 batting average over the seven-game week tallying 21 total bases for an incredible 1.000 slugging percentage. She had six of her nine hits go for extra bases, including three home runs and three doubles, increasing her team-leading home run total to seven this season.
Monigold added nine runs scored and seven RBIs leading RSU to its first-ever Heartland Conference sweep, coming at the Diamond Sports Complex over perennial power St. Edward's.
She ranks in a tie for fifth in conference home runs while holding the eighth spot in conference slugging percentage at .633.
The weekly award is the first for the Softball Cats as a member of the Heartland Conference under first-year head coach Amy Cope.
Rogers State (9-20, 5-10 HC) puts its five-game win streak on the line looking for redemption against Northeastern State with a doubleheader Tuesday.
