WACO, Texas – A pair of Rogers State freshmen in
Cody Gammill and
Jordan Permaul earned Heartland Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors after impressive debuts for the Hillcats.
Gammill claimed Defensive Player of the Week accolades after backstopping RSU to a pair of road victories opening the season. The Frisco, Texas native earned a shutout in his collegiate debut making two saves at Southern Nazarene and followed with a six-save performance in a 2-1 overtime win at Oklahoma Baptist.
Permaul started his career in the navy and red in brilliant fashion, registering Offensive Player of the Week honors after netting a goal in each of his first two RSU matches, including the game winner in the 2-0 win against the Crimson Storm Thursday. The Owasso, Oklahoma product then added a second-half equalizer for the Hillcats versus the Bison Tuesday. Permaul scored on every shot taken for a perfect shooting percentage.
The awards are the first for the men's soccer program in their second season competing in the Heartland Conference.
