Vanisi Named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State's Andrew Vanisi was named Heartland Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week after helping the Hillcats to a conference series victory over Lubbock Christian.

Vanisi led the Hillcats to a series win over Chaps in Lubbock. The Hillcats swept a doubleheader at Hays Field on Friday evening and nearly pulled off the three-game sweep Saturday but the ninth inning comeback bid fell short, 10-9.

The senior registered seven hits on the weekend with six extra base hits. He collected three doubles in the second game of the series with four total on the weekend and added two home runs, including a grand slam in the series finale. He had a team-best eight RBI in the three-game series and scored five times totaling a 1.133 slugging percentage.

A native of San Mateo, Calif., Vanisi leads the Hillcats in seven offensive categories, including home runs with seven on the season and doubles with 16.

Vanisi and Rogers State return to the diamond on Tuesday with a non-conference tilt at Northeastern State at 2 p.m.
