WACO, Texas – For the third-consecutive week, Rogers State's
Andrew Vanisi was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week after helping the baseball team to a perfect 4-0 performance in the final week of the 2015 season.
Vanisi tallied hits in all four games posting a .500 batting average for the Hillcats closing the season on a 17-game hit streak. He moved his season average to .373, ranking third in the league, capping one of the best offensive seasons in the 10-year history of the program.
In the season finale Saturday, the senior belted two doubles in his first two at bats to break the RSU single-season record with 20 for the year, securing the series sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State. He hit one home run in game two against the Aggies for his league-best 12th of the year, one shy of the Hillcats' single-season record.
The San Mateo, California native finished the week with six runs scored and eight RBI while drawing three walks and a hit by pitch. He tallied a .929 slugging percentage during the four games increasing his conference-leading total to .735 ending his season with 122 total bases, 23 more than any other player in the Heartland Conference.
Vanisi is the first-ever RSU student-athlete to earn three weekly awards from the conference in a single season.
