Walker Farrar was named the Heartland Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week announced by the Heartland Conference on Monday (Oct. 16). It's Farrar's second league player of the week honor in his career in navy and red and his first this season.
Farrar, a senior from Topeka, Kan., allowed only one goal in two matches during the week for the Hillcats as the navy and red posted two draws in league play. Farrar made a career-high eight saves in a 1-1 draw against No. 3-ranked Midwestern State on Thursday at Soldier Field in Claremore. The senior earned his third shutout of the season on Saturday as he held Newman scoreless in 110 minutes of action in Wichita, Kan. Farrar totaled three saves in the 0-0 draw against the Jets.
For the season, Farrar has three shutouts in six starts with a 0.92 goals against average. He is 2-2-2 on the year with 24 saves and a 0.80 save percentage.
This is Farrar's second Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week award. He earned the honor once as a junior on Oct. 31, 2016 after a shutout 1-0 win at Newman.
Farrar and his Hillcat teammates travel to Texas A&M International on Thursday for a 5 p.m. contest in Laredo, Texas.
