Women's Soccer Sweeps Heartland Player of the Week Awards

WACO, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team swept the Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week awards as Hannah Mushisky and Taylor Sargent claimed the weekly honors as announced by the Heartland Conference on Monday. Mushisky was named the league offensive player of the week, and Sargent was selected as the conference defensive player of the week.
 
Mushisky, a freshman from Arcadia, Calif., score two huge goals for the Hillcats this week to propel the Hillcats to a 2-0-1 record, including RSU's first-ever victory over St. Edward's, the 2016 Heartland Conference champion. The freshman tallied the game-winning goal against the Hilltoppers with her score in the final minute of the first half in the 2-1 victory. Mushisky registered the game-tying goal against Dallas Baptist University on Thursday in a 1-1 draw against the conference-leading Patriots. She netted the goal in the final minutes of regulation to force the tie. The Arcadia, Calif. native started the week with a goal on Monday in a dominating victory over Manhattan Christian. This is Mushisky's first weekly honor.
 
For the season, the freshman ranks fifth in the Heartland Conference with six goals and seventh in the league in points with 13. She has appeared in all 14 games with seven starts.
 
Sargent, a junior from The Colony, Texas, led the Hillcats to a 2-0-1 record in goal during the week, including the Hillcats' first-ever victory over St. Edward's on Saturday. The junior started the week with a shutout victory over Manhattan Christian on Monday, her seventh shutout of the season. She then allowed only one goal in a 1-1 draw against DBU on Thursday as she totaled seven saves. To end the week, Sargent earned the win in goal in a 2-1 victory over St. Edward's as she made one save. This is Sargent's first player of the week honor this season.
 
For the season, Sargent has appeared in all 1,285 minutes in goal with 14 starts. She has seven shutouts and a 0.56 goals against average. The junior has totaled 52 saves and a .867 save percentage for a 10-3-1 record.
 
RSU is 10-3-1 this season and currently ranks second in the Heartland Conference standings with a 6-3-1 record. The Cats are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak.
 
The Hillcats start a four-game road trip to end the regular season on Thursday (Oct. 19) at Texas A&M International at 7:30 p.m. in Laredo, Texas.
