WACO, Texas – Rogers State men's cross country runner
Baylor Harvey was named the Heartland Conference Runner of the Week announced on Tuesday (Oct. 3) by the Heartland Conference. It's the seventh time Harvey has earned the award in his career and second time this season.
Harvey, a senior from Cleveland, Okla., lowered his own school record in the 8-kilometer with a time of 24:07.57 at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday. In a field of three top-25 NCAA Division II programs, Harvey finished second among the Division II runners. He broke his own school record by 17 seconds. As a team, the Hillcats ranked third of the NCAA Division II programs behind No. 2-ranked Grand Valley State and No. 14-ranked Bellarmine. The Cats, however, posted a faster average time than Bellarmine.
Outside of the regional and national championships, Harvey has placed in the top three in 11 straight races, including eight individual wins. As a junior, the Cleveland, Okla. native was an All-American, Academic All-American and the Heartland Conference Runner of the Year.
The league honor is his seventh runner of the week award in his career. As a junior, he received the honor three times and as a sophomore earned the award two times in 2014.
The Hillcats cross country team travels to the FHSU Tiger Open on Saturday (Oct. 7) in Victoria, Kan.
