CLAREMORE, Okla. – Second-year Rogers State women's soccer head coach
Scott Parkinson announced the signing of 19 student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent Monday.
The 19 member class consists of two NCAA Division I transfers, one Division II transfer, seven junior college transfers and nine incoming freshman for the 2017 season this fall.
"This recruiting class is a direct reflection of how big time this University is. We want to be the best in all areas," Parkinson said. "We believe this amazing group of players with the returning players can get us closer to our team's dreams and goals."
Parkinson and his staff cast a wide net to secure signatures with nine players originating from California, seven come from Oklahoma, two from Texas and one signing from Kansas.
Rogers State saw a turnaround in Parkinson's first season at the helm improving by five wins as the Hillcats totaled more victories, six, in the 2016 season than the combined win total of the previous two years.
Below is a list of all the newest members of the RSU women's soccer team (in alphabetical order).
Mackenzie Belyeu
Hometown: Edmond, Okla. | Previous School: Edmond North High School
Coach Parkinson: "Mackenzie is going to instantly increase the athleticism within the team. She is one of the hardest workers you're going to find. I have known her for nearly seven years and have seen her develop into a great player. She has been coached by two friends of mine at OFC and they knew she'd be my type of player. When she trained with our team in 2016 she stood out to us"
Soccer Accomplishments: Belyeu was named Edmond North High School Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 and Newcomer of the Year in 2014. In 2015-16, she helped her club team, Oklahoma FC '00 White, to a President's Cup State Championship.
Maggie Brown
Hometown: Glendora, Calif. | Previous School: Charter Oak High School
Coach Parkinson: "Maggie is just a great kid. She is fast, very technical and has an eye for the goal. Maggie is someone who will be able to help us in possession and allow us to create and score many opportunities. Getting Maggie was good business for us here. She will help us right away and for many years to come. She has been coached by some brilliant people and we are excited to see her blossom at RSU"
Soccer Accomplishments: Was varsity captain for Charter Oak High School while earning first team all-league honors and named Forward MVP in 2016-17. She earned COHS Most Inspirational honors in 2015-16.
Melissa Cardenas
Hometown: Oxnard, Calif. | Previous School: Ventura College
Coach Parkinson: "Chica is a player. She is a fierce competitor and complete athlete. She can play all over the field but we see her in the back line this season. She was a JUCO Second Team All American in 2016 and we know she will be a leader from day one. She has won two league championships with Ventura College and numerous personal awards. She knows what it takes to win"
Soccer Accomplishments: Cardenas totaled five goals and five assists and earned 2016 All-WSC First Team, NSCAA JC DIII All-West Region First Team, and NSCAA DIII All-America Second Team honors. Served as team captain in 2016 while earning the Captain Award and was named Team Defensive MVP.
Daisy Cardona
Hometown: Ventura, Calif. | Previous School: University of Oklahoma
Coach Parkinson: "Daisy was a massive signing for us. She is coming to us having scored six goals as a junior at the University of Oklahoma. She is a true fox in the box and has a nose for the goal. With all her Big 12 experience Daisy will raise the bar here both on and off the field. We see her being a coach on the field for us and making a huge impact, and of course helping us score plenty of goals"
Soccer Accomplishments: In 2013-14, totaled seven goals in Big 12 Conference play with the Oklahoma Sooners while earning Offensive MVP honors. At Ventura College in 2012-13 she finished with 17 goals and 16 assists to earn Junior College Division III National Player of the Year. She was named Ventura College Offensive MVP and Female Athlete of the Year. That same year she also earned All-American Honors and First Team Western State Conference North Division recognition.
Jordan Downing
Hometown: Hutchison, Kan. | Previous School: Hutchinson Community College
Coach Parkinson: "Jordan is a goal machine. She scored 44 goals in 2016 for Hutchison JUCO under my mate Sammy Lane, and was second in the nation for goals scored. She also totaled 26 assists making her the national assists leader. We brought Jordan here to score and create goals and she will do that. It was an unbelievable achievement for us to get her here."
Soccer Accomplishments: In 2016-17 for Hutchinson Community College she totaled 42 Goals and 24 Assists, most goals in a single season. She was second in the nation for goals scored in junior college and first in the nation for assists and overall points with 148 career point for second most in team history. She earned Second Team All-American honors and was named Jayhawk West Offensive Player of the Year. Totaled 15 Goals and 10 assists in 2015-16 season.
Janell Hernandez
Hometown: Valley Village, Calif. | Previous School: Taft High School
Coach Parkinson: "I think Janell will be the surprise package of the recruiting class. She is five-feet tall but one of the fastest, most tenacious players I've ever seen. This kid doesn't stop and to top it off she scores lots of goals. Keep an eye out for Janell this season, we are thrilled to have her. She fits the RSU player profile perfectly."
Soccer Accomplishments: In 2016-17 at Taft High School she totaled 11 goals and nine assists while being named Scholar-Athlete and All-City Team D1. Was a member of the All-Star High School Los Angeles County Team and helped her club team to the 2016 Albion Cup Championship. She will represent El Salvador playing for the Women's National Team in Central-America World Cup Qualifier in 2017.
Eva Madarang
Hometown: Thousand Oaks, Calif. | Previous School: Moorpark College
Coach Parkinson: "Eva is a massive addition to RSU. She is currently away with the Philippines Women's National Team and scored two crackers on her debut against the United Arab Emirates in a World Cup Qualifier. Eva plays the game the way it's supposed to be played. On the ball she is creative and forward thinking, off the ball she's relentless and tough. We are excited to get her here."
Soccer Accomplishments: Currently playing for the Philippines Women's National team participating in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Jordan 2018 Qualifiers and scored two goals in the opening game of the qualifier. She was named 2016 Moorpark College MVP while also earning the 100% Hustle Award for the second consecutive year. Earned first team all-conference honors while leading the team to a Western State North Championships (CCCAA).
Olivia Maulsby
Hometown: Claremore, Okla. | Previous School: Claremore High School
Coach Parkinson: "Olivia is a player we watched closely for a while. Coming off a serious knee injury she has returned to form very well. Olivia is athletic and a wonderful striker of the ball. Being local she also understands our style and we believe will fit in like a glove here. We expect some powerful performances from her this season."
Soccer Accomplishments: Served as team captain in 2017 for both the Claremore Zebras and NEOFC. Maulsby has totaled seven goals and four assists through the early season for the Lady Zebras while leading her club team in scoring. In 2014-15, she was named Claremore High School All-District Player and Newcomer of the Year.
Skylar Muncy
Hometown: Claremore, Okla. | Previous School: Claremore High School
Coach Parkinson: "Skylar is an athlete. Within minutes of seeing her I liked her a lot. She is fast, energetic and fearless in the tackle. She knows the Hillcat way. We believe that Skylar will improve us going forward and we are thrilled to have her playing for her hometown team."
Soccer Accomplishments: Earned 2016 Oklahoma State Championship and 2016 All-District Rising Star Award.
Madison Murray
Hometown: Newbury Park, Calif. | Previous School: Moorpark College
Coach Parkinson: "Maddie is the complete student-athlete. She's six-feet tall and a nightmare for defenders, being so big and strong. Maddie has scored goals at all levels of her career. She is coming off a conference championship with Moorpark College where she was their starting forward. Maddie also earned NSCAA Academic All American award for 2016 for her excellence in the class room. What a great addition."
Soccer Accomplishments: In 2016-17, totaled nine goals and 13 assists while helping Moorpark to a WSC North Championship and also earned First-Team NSCAA Scholar All-American honors. In 2015-16 she finished with 12 goals and five assists. Claimed a WSC North Championship along with First Team honors and was named Offensive MVP at Moorpark. Murray scored two goals in under a minute to help Moorpark to a victory over rival Ventura College in her first season.
Hannah Mushisky
Hometown: Arcadia, Calif. | Previous School: Arcadia High School
Coach Parkinson: "Hannah is coming from teams that know how to win. She's banged goals in everywhere she has been and won many championships over her career. One of the most pleasing things we saw in Hannah was her ability to press from the front and understand her role in a system. Hannah has a wonderful personality and will fit into this group perfectly. "
Soccer Accomplishments: Totaled 19 goals and four assists for Arcadia High School in 2016-17 while claiming the Pacific League Championship for the third straight year. As a junior she compiled 22 goals and five assists for AHS while also helping LA Premier FC to a first place finish in the CSL Premier League.
Abigail Resendiz
Hometown: Enid, Okla. | Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa
Coach Parkinson: "Abi is a player and smooth as you like. She can and will dictate the flow of a game and create all sorts of finishing chances for her forwards. We had lots of competition for her signature but thankfully we got the deal done. Abi will bring a maturity to the team and we expected her to lead our younger midfield players during her time here. Abi is a champion and we are grateful to have a player of her caliber here at RSU."
Soccer Accomplishments: At Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa last season she finished with six goals and two assists on the way to a district finals appearance and NJCAA Region II Championship. Resendiz earned NJCAA Region II All-Tournament Team honors in 2016.
Bria Salazar
Hometown: Glendora, Calif. | Charter Oak High School
Coach Parkinson: "Bria came to RSU and trained with the team and blew us away. She was simply incredible. Her competitiveness and football brain make her a stand out. As soon as we saw her play, we knew we had to have her here. She embodies exactly what we look for in a player. Bria has been coached by some phenomenal people and it shows in her play."
Soccer Accomplishments: Salazar was named Second Team Hacienda All-League for the second consecutive season in 2016-17 while also earning All-Academic Team and Midfield MVP. She was named Scholar Athlete while also earning the Charger Award in 2015-16.
Taylor Sargent
Hometown: The Colony, Texas | Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa
Coach Parkinson: "Taylor is a quality keeper and of all the available goalkeepers we saw Taylor impressed us the most. She has gone deep into championship seasons in both of her seasons as a JUCO player and has gone up against some of the best forwards in the country. Again we had competition for her signature but thankfully she felt RSU was the place for her to continue to develop and win."
Soccer Accomplishments: Totaled six shutouts and made 61 saves while allowing just two goals in 2016-17 at Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa. Helped the Mavericks to a NJCAA Region II Championship and named to the NJCAA Region II All-Tournament Team. Helped The Colony High School Cougars to a 2014 Texas State Championship.
Adrienne Streetman
Hometown: Tulsa, Okla. | Southwestern Oklahoma State University
Coach Parkinson: "Adrienne is a D2 transfer and has lost of natural ability. She has some D2 experience which is huge for us. I saw Adrienne playing five-aside football in Tulsa a few years back and she blew me away. When she became available we jumped all over it. She has some work to do but we believe she will come in flying."
Soccer Accomplishments: Played in 2015-16 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.
Bailey Stringer
Hometown: Owasso, Okla. | Owasso High School
Coach Parkinson: "Bailey is another local player who is used to winning games and silverware. She was desperate to be a Hillcat and we loved that. She is very technical and a workhorse and we love those traits here. I know Bailey will improve our group on and off the field and we can't wait to see out there."
Soccer Accomplishments: Helped the Owasso High School Rams to a 2015-16 Oklahoma State Runner-Up finish. Earned multiple player of the game awards. Served as team captain the last two seasons for Bartlesville FC.
Amanda Tewes
Hometown: Ventura, Calif. | Previous School: Oregon State University
Coach Parkinson: "Amanda comes to us from NCAA Division I Oregon State University in the PAC 12. She is an incredible person and knows how to play the game. Amanda will be a massive part of what we look to do this year, both in the midfield, the back line and off the field. She was a super star at Ventura College winning league championships and MVP awards. We got better the day she committed to RSU."
Soccer Accomplishments: Appeared in six games for the Oregon State University Beavers through 2014-16. In two seasons, 2012-14, at Ventura College she totaled eight goals and 40 assists. Tewes was an All-American nominee while serving as team captain for two season at Ventura.
BreAnn Tolleson
Hometown: The Colony, Texas | Previous School: Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa
Coach Parkinson: "BreAnn is the full package. She has scored tons of goals during her JUCO career and supplied plenty of goals to her teammates. This year she was named Second Team All-American scoring 29 goals and totaling 21 assists. This girl is fast, aggressive, defends from the front, and can score all sorts of goals. I cannot wait to see her busting the net for us in 2017."
Soccer Accomplishments: Set the NOC - Tonkawa record for single season goals in 2015 with 27 goals adding 13 assists. She broke her own school record in 2016 finishing with 29 goals and 21 assists. She was named NJCAA Region II MVP in leading the Mavericks to regional championships in back-to-back years.
Alex Wynn
Hometown: Norman, Okla. | Previous School: Norman North High School
Coach Parkinson: "Alex was my first ever committed player as a head coach. I watched her play at State Cup 2016 and couldn't believe she was uncommitted. This girl can play and she is my type of defender. She loves the tackle, can head the ball, possesses great pace, and is smooth on the ball. Off the field she is a leader and will lead here for years to come. Alex set the bar for this recruiting class when she said yes to RSU."
Soccer Accomplishments: Was Norman North High School girls' soccer MVP and Defensive Player of the Year as a junior last year. The Timberwolves team captain was named All-District and All-Conference last season. As team captain she led Fury 99 NYSA to a state championship last year and will head to regionals in June.
