WACO, Texas – Rogers State goalkeeper
Cody Gammill was named the Heartland Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday (Sept. 11).
Gammill garnered the weekly award for the fifth time in his career in the navy and red as he helped the Hillcats to two shutout victories last week. With the two wins, the Cats moved to 3-1 on the 2017 campaign and start league action this Thursday and Saturday at Soldier Field.
Gammill, a senior from Frisco, Texas, and his Hillcat teammates started the week with an impressive 1-0 victory over preseason No. 11 Fort Hays State on Thursday at Soldier Field. Gammill made his first start of the season and went the full 90 minutes, totaling three saves in the win. The saves were key in the close one-goal victory. Gammill earned his second shutout win of the week on Sunday in a 4-0 win at Southwest Baptist. The senior went the first 77 minutes of action and posted two saves, moving to 2-0 on the season in goal.
For the season, Gammill has held opponents scoreless for 171 minutes and registered five saves and two shutout wins.
RSU opens Heartland Conference action on Thursday (Sept. 14) at 5 p.m. when the Hillcats host Lubbock Christian at Soldier Field. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network.
