Jackson Selected as Heartland Player of the Week

WACO, Texas – Rogers State women's basketball's Darian Jackson was named the Heartland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday (Jan. 22). It is Jackson's first Heartland Player of the Week award in her career.
 
Jackson, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., led the Hillcats to a pair of Heartland Conference wins, RSU's first undefeated week since conference play began. She averaged 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in the two victories and shot nearly 70 percent for the week on 11-of-16 (69 percent) shooting from the floor, including 2-for-2 from 3-point distance. In a 75-66 win over St. Mary's on Thursday, Jackson nearly posted a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds and added a career-high four assists. She registered a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds in a dominating 77-57 win over Texas A&M International on Saturday.
 
For the season, the sophomore forward averages 11.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and has started in all 17 games. The Cats are 6-11 and 2-4 in the Heartland after winning two straight games.
 
The Hillcats are back in action this Wednesday (Jan. 24) when they play host to UA Fort Smith at 5:30 p.m. inside the Claremore Expo Center. The game is a whiteout with the first 750 fans receiving a free t-shirt sponsored by BSN Sports. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network, RSU TV and 91.3 FM.
