WACO, Texas – The Rogers State softball team took both Heartland Conference Player of the Week honors with
Alex Brake being named the league pitcher of the week for the second time this season and
Allie McFetridge being selected as the conference hitter of the week as announced by the Heartland Conference on Tuesday (Feb. 20) morning.
Brake, a senior form Joplin Mo., was at it again throwing a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Fort Hays State on Thursday in Claremore. She followed that performance with a one-hitter in an 11-0 win over Nebraska Kearney on Saturday in Hays, Kan. and closed the week with a win over Upper Iowa as she pitched 4.0 innings in relief in windy conditions on Sunday. For the week, she posted 15 strikeouts in 14.0 innings with only four hits allowed and one earned run. In the no-hitter, Brake only allowed two baserunners on an error and a walk. Her one-hitter saw only two baserunners as well with the hit and a hit by pitch. This is Brake's second weekly award this season.
Appearing in six games this season, Brake has a 4-1 record with a 2.42 earned run average. She has made four starts and pitched 26 innings with 25 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting only .186 against Brake this season.
McFetridge, a freshman from Fullerton, Calif., led the Hillcats to a 7-0 week as she hit .619 with 13 hits, three home runs and 17 RBI. She slugged 1.048 with a .667 on-base percentage. In six of the seven games for the Hillcats, McFetridge recorded multiple hits. The freshman tallied two or more RBI in six of the seven games, including five RBI in the win over Washburn. This is McFetridge's first plyer of the week honor in her short collegiate career.
For the season, McFetridge is hitting a team-high .469 with 23 hits in 49 at-bats. She has a team-high 23 RBI with three home runs in 15 starts this season.
The Hillcat softball team is currently on a seven-game winning streak and holds an 11-4 overall record this season.
RSU softball goes on the road this weekend to start Heartland Conference play. The Cats take on St. Mary's on Friday (Feb. 23) at 3 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas. The weekend concludes for the navy and red at St. Edward's on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 12 p.m.
