Jess Whitting was named the Heartland Conference Women's Golfer of the Week after winning the St. Edward's Invitational with a school record school this week as announced by the Heartland Conference on Wednesday (Feb. 21).
Whitting, a native of Perth, Australia, rallied and pulled away from the field with a school record 3-under-par 67 in the final round of the St. Edward's Invitational to win by three shots. The final round of 3-under-par 67 was the best round of the two-day tournament by four shots and erased a first round two-stroke deficit. Whitting shot a score of 5-over-par 75 in round one for a total score of 2-over-par 142 to win in the field of 90 golfers at Onion Creek CC in Austin, Texas. This is Whitting's second golfer of the week honor this season.
For the season, Whitting has three top five finishes in her first season competing for the navy and red.
The Hillcats are back in action on March 12-13 at the Midwestern State Invitational at the Wichita Falls CC in Wichita Falls, Texas.
