Blake Chiaramonte was named the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday (April 2) afternoon.
Chiaramonte, a junior from Moorpark, Calif., led the Hillcat offense in a series split against Texas A&M International with a .500 average while racking up six hits, including four doubles, and five RBI in three games during the weekend. The junior totaled two hits in each of the three games he appeared, and posted a four-RBI game in the finale on Saturday in a 9-5 victory, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored. For the series, Chiaramonte slugged .833 with a .571 on-base percentage. The second baseman was perfect in the field with nine putout and eight assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage. This is Chiaramonte's first hitter of the week award in his first season in the navy and red.
For the season, Chiaramonte is hitting .286 with seven doubles and a team-high 20 RBI in 27 starts at second base.
The Hillcats are back in action this weekend at St. Edward's in a four-game Heartland Conference series that starts on Friday with a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. in Austin, Texas.
