Brendan Griffith was named the Heartland Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week as announced by the Heartland Conference on Tuesday (April 24).
Griffith, a junior from Santa Clarita, Calif., hit a team-high .462 on 6-of-13 from the plate in a four-game series against Lubbock Christian during the week. Griffith reached base at a .588 clip drawing four walks to go along with a double and five base hits. The junior was 1-for-1 in stolen bases swiping a bag in game three of the four-game conference series. He brought in six runs during the weekend and scored a pair of runs. This is Griffith's first player of the week award this season, his first in the navy and red.
Griffith helped the Hillcats to a dominating doubleheader sweep of LCU on Thursday with wins by the scores of 12-2 and 11-1. The navy and red split with the Chaps after dropping both games of a twinbill on Friday. RSU is 22-20 this season and 8-12 in the Heartland Conference.
For the season, Griffith is hitting .316, second best on the team, with six doubles and 15 RBI. He has a team-best .402 on-base percentage in 32 appearances. At second base, the junior is fielding .944 with 52 putouts and 49 assists.
The Hillcats are back in action this weekend at Newman for a four-game series. The action starts on Friday (April 27) with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. in Wichita, Kan. Live stats, video and audio streaming will be available.
