RiverHawks Walk Past Hillcats, 17-4

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State made winning as easy as a stroll in the park for Northeastern State Tuesday as the RiverHawks capitalized on 15 walks issued by the Hillcats en route to a 17-4 victory at the Hillcat Complex.
 

Six Hillcat pitchers combined to issue a school-record 15 free passes. Junior left-hander Chris Graves set the tone with four walks over the first three-plus innings. RSU led 3-2 entering the top of the fourth when the game took a drastic turn.
 

Graves allowed the first six hitters of the inning to reach on four hits and two walks. Reliever D.J. Thompson entered and promptly yielded two more walks as NSU tallied seven runs in the inning. The RiverHawks added four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to turn the game into a rout. NSU plated 15 runs with the aid of 10 walks during the three-inning span.
 

The RiverHawks banged out 12 hits and also benefited from four RSU errors. Three NSU pitchers combined to hold the Hillcats to just four runs on seven hits. Coby Wright was the lone bright spot for RSU with two hits and three RBI in the game. Blake Neighbors, Kyle Davidson and Justin Delay had three hits apiece for NSU. Jerad Ball earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief.

Graves (3-3) suffered his third loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits in three inning of work. Each of the six RSU pitchers who appeared in the game issued at least two base-on-balls.

Rogers State (26-13) lost for just the second time in a non-conference contest this season. The Hillcats return to Sooner Athletic Conference play Thursday as they travel to Oklahoma City to face Mid-America Christian. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
