Kelley and the Cats Complete Sweep of Cavaliers, 11-8

SHAWNEE, Okla. - Rogers State sophomore Blake Kelley cranked three home runs and the Hillcats completed a three game sweep of St. Gregory's with an 11-8 victory at Cavalier Field in Shawnee Sunday.

The Hillcat shortstop finished 4-for-4 with four RBI and became the first player in school history to homer three times in one game. Ryan Littlejohn and Travis Harold also went deep for RSU as the Hillcats tallied 14 hits and five home runs on the afternoon.

Littlejohn and Kelley went back-to-back in the top of the first inning to put the Cats on top, 2-0. Kelley and Harold belted homers in the fifth and Kelley went deep a third time in the sixth to push the lead to 7-2.

Trailing 10-2, SGU rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off RSU reliever D.J. Thompson. The Cavaliers put together five hits in the inning and brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate before Brett Trzcinski got Caleb Phillips to fly out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Trzcinski worked a scoreless ninth to record his first save of the season. Freshman left-hander Sam Cornell turned in another quality start for the RSU pitching staff. Cornell (4-1) tossed seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. The young southpaw is now tied for the team lead in wins despite making just three starts.

Kelley, Harold, Coby Wright and Hank Gray all enjoyed multi-hit games for RSU. Littlejohn, Harold and Greg Speed contributed two RBI apiece.

Rogers State (24-11, 13-10) extended its winning streak to six games with the victory and will break from conference play for the next week. The Hillcats will host Oklahoma Wesleyan for a single game Tuesday at the Hillcat Complex. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
