Soccer Cats Clip Our Lady of the Lake, 2-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State grabbed a two-goal lead early and held on for its second victory of the season, edging Our Lady of the Lake 2-1 in the home opener at Soldier Field Wednesday in Claremore, Okla.

Sophomore Carlos Zuta found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to give the Hillcats the early lead. Shemord Thompson rebounded a miss off the post and beat Saints goalie Hernan Ramirez to make it 2-0 Cats at the 38:44 mark.

The visitors dominated the pace of play in the second half but struggled to convert on scoring opportunities. The Saints outshot RSU 10-to-1 in the second half. However, OLL mustered just one goal as Eric Torkildsen scored on a free kick from just outside the box at 73:35.

The Hillcats milked the clock for the final 16 minutes to post a 2-1 victory. Goalie Sean Surridge tallied six saves while making his first start of the season.

Rogers State (2-0) will travel to Southwestern College (Winfield, Kan.) Saturday for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
