MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Bacone College avenged being swept by Rogers State on Opening Day in Claremore last month by taking both games of a doubleheader from the Hillcats Tuesday in Muskogee, Okla.

Chrissy Willis blanked the Cats with a complete-game shutout as the Lady Warriors claimed the opener, 3-0. RSU battled from behind with two home runs in the nightcap but came up on the short end of a 9-5 decision. The Hillcats outhit Bacone 15-13 on the afternoon. However, RSU stranded 14 base runners and was forced to settle for a 2-2 season series split with the Lady Warriors.
GAME ONE

Willis scattered five hits across seven frames to record a 3-0 victory in the first game of the day.

RSU couldn't get anything going offensively. The Hillcats put runners in scoring position in only one inning and struck out eight times in the contest. Sasha Long and Tiffany Ward opened the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back singles to put Bacone in front, 1-0. Ward later scored on a passed ball and the Lady Warriors tacked on another unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.

Ward collected two of Bacone's three hits in the contest. Jenny Johnson suffered the loss after giving up three runs, one earned, over six innings of work.
GAME TWO

The Hillcats fell behind early and couldn't keep pace with Bacone in the nightcap.

The Lady Warriors scored at least one run in all six of their at-bats to complete the two-game sweep with a 9-5 win. Ward ripped a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning to give Bacone the early lead. Melanie Hawkins followed with a solo homer to start the second but the Hillcats answered with some fireworks of their own in the top of the third.

Megan Wood belted a homer to start the inning and Lillian Nevarez followed with a solo shot to right-center. The Lady Warriors came right back with two runs on a two-run single by Hawkins in the bottom of the third and held off the Cats the rest of the way. Trailing 6-3 in the fifth, RSU scored two runs to get back within striking distance. Bacone answered again with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth and added a another tally in the sixth to reach the final margin.

Wood, Nevarez and Marie Gaudet had two hits apiece for the Hillcats. Hawkins led the Lady Warriors with a 4-for-4 performance. Willis earned her second win of the afternoon with four innings of relief while Johnson (10-4) was tagged with the loss after tossing all six innings for RSU.

Rogers State (10-6) returns to Sooner Athletic Conference play Thursday afternoon when it welcomes Northwestern Oklahoma State to the Hillcat Complex. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
