Diamond Cats Crush Mid-America Christian, 11-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State showed no rust from a 10-day layoff as the Hillcats pounded Mid-America Christian 11-0 in a run-rule victory Friday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex.

RSU scored 10 runs over its final three at-bats to reach the final margin. Joe Manbodh and Andy Gonell both contributed two-run homers during the hit parade. The Hillcats finished with 16 hits and took the first game of a three-game series from the Evangels.

Rob Rodriguez doubled home Ryan Littlejohn in the bottom of the second inning to give the Cats a 1-0 lead. Littlejohn plated two runs in the fourth as RSU sent nine hitters to the plate in the inning. Gonell's two-run blast over the right field wall made it a six-run lead.

Rodriguez and Gonell added back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth and Manbodh capped the scoring with a two-run homer down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth. Littlejohn paced the offense with a 4-for-4 performance. Brandon Denton and Rodriguez tallied three hits apiece while Mandbodh and Gonell had two.

The RSU lineup provided more than enough support for starter Grant Cosby. The junior right-hander posted a complete-game shutout. Cosby (3-2) scattered six hits across seven innings and tallied three strikeouts without yielding a walk.

Ben Coffeen (1-3) was tagged with the loss for MACU after giving up eight earned runs over 4.2 innings. TJ Munch had two of the Evangels six hits. The two teams will reconvene Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader in Oklahoma City beginning at 1 p.m.

Rogers State (21-10, 8-8) will head out for a six-game road trip Saturday morning. After playing MACU Saturday afternoon the Cats will travel to Texas for back-to-back doubleheaders with Paul Quinn College and Texas Wesleyan.
