OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Rogers State Hillcats closed the books on the 2009 softball season with a 5-2 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State Sunday at the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament in Oklahoma City.

The Lady Rangers scored five runs over the first four innings while the Hillcats managed just two runs against Amy Ramirez. Northwestern advanced to the tournament semifinals with the victory.

Lillian Nevarez gave RSU the early lead when she doubled and scored on a single by Jenny Johnson in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Rangers tied the game with a pair of singles in the second and took the lead for good on a two-run home run by Dana Gandolfo in the third.

The Hillcats hung close as Nevarez walked and scored in the third to cut the lead to 3-2. However, Ramirez allowed just two hits the rest of the way. Tanya Parker and Gandolfo delivered RBI singles in the fourth to reach the final margin, 5-2. Ramirez scattered six hits across seven innings to earn the victory.

Johnson (29-22) took the loss after giving up five runs on 11 hits. She also had two hits and completed her senior season with the RSU single-season records for wins and home runs.

Rogers State (31-23) completed its third consecutive 30-win season. Seniors Jenny Johnson, Lillian Nevarez, Natalie Smith, Sara Walkup and Megan Wood will depart from the Hillcats this spring.
