CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team flexed its offensive muscles on Tuesday as they cruised past Sooner Athletic Conference opponent St. Gregory's University 9-0 at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats earned a goal early as sophomore Lauren Hager dribbled through the defense, slotting the ball past SGU goalkeeper Jennifer Tabor in the ninth minute of play.
In the 29th minute, Shereen Clarke finished a cross from Morghan Saliba to give the Hillcats a 2-0 lead.
The Hillcats took a 3-0 advantage into intermission after the Cavaliers scored an own goal in the 40th minute. Hager crossed the ball across the face of the goal and it deflected off a SGU defender into the net.
The Hillcats put the Cavaliers away early in the second half with a goal by Clarke. RSU earned a free kick in the 47th minute in the five-yard box. Hager took the kick, passing it to Clarke who buried the ball in the net.
Less than a minute later, Hager struck for the second time, beating the SGU defense and firing the ball in the net.
Clarke converted her third goal of the game and team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 51st minute, giving the Hillcats a 6-0 advantage.
Jessica Turner added her first career goal in the 57th minute and freshman Demi Mullin rounded out the scoring with a pair of goals in the 69th and 74 minute.
The Hillcats out-shot SGU 30-9. SGU goalkeeper Jennifer Tabor made 12 saves while RSU keepers Chelsea McMullin and Jessica McCutcheon split time in the net making a combined four saves. It is the Hillcats fifth shutout of the season.
RSU (7-3-1, 3-1-1 SAC) returns to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 16 as they host John Brown at Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
