Hillcats End Season at SAC Tournament

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team ended their season on Friday afternoon as Oklahoma City University defeated the Hillcats, 3-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference quarterfinals at Stars Field.

The Stars opened the game with an early lead when Ryan Hunter scored in the first minute of the game. Hunter broke through the RSU midfield on the opening kickoff and fired a shot past Hillcat goalkeeper Sean Surridge.

OCU took a 2-0 lead with a goal by Chris Spendlove in the 34th minute off a corner kick by John Dill.

Sophomore Grant Smith recorded a goal just before halftime to cut the Stars lead in half.  Freshman Steve Baker crossed the ball into the top of box from the right side to Smith who drilled it into the net.

Francis Malalou put the game away for OCU in the 77th minute, sending a header into the goal.

The Stars put 10 shots on frame while only allowing RSU to record two shots on goal.

With the win, OCU moves on to the semifinals where they will face the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha, Okla. on Monday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.

Surridge, a senior from Kent England, played in his final game as a Hillcat. The four-year starter has been with the program since the inaugural season, playing in 51 games, making 350 saves. In his finale, Surridge made seven saves while giving up two goals. Seven saves, giving up two goals.

The Hillcats finish the season 11-6-2 overall with a 5-4-1 SAC record.  Nine seniors joined Surridge in their final game with the RSU soccer program- Carlos Zuta, Des Fitzgerald, Matt Longaberger, Jaime Perez, Brett Jones, Trent Baker, Nikola Samac, Oscar Zelaya and Sergio Guerra.
