CLAREMORE, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian rallied for runs in the final inning of both games en route to a doubleheader sweep over Rogers State Saturday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex in Claremore.
The Lady Eagles scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to post a 7-6 victory in the opener. OC trailed entering the final frame of the nightcap before exploding for four runs and a 7-4 win.
GAME ONE
Ashley Calles's seventh-inning homer proved to be the difference in game one as the Lady Eagles completed a come-from-behind victory.
OC scored four runs in the top of the first inning before the Hillcats came roaring back. Linsey Curtis quickly cut the lead to one with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. RSU pushed the tying run across in the third and took the lead on a solo homer by Shelby Brogdon in the top of the fifth.
Christin Dobbs doubled to start the sixth for the Eagles and scored the tying run on an error. Calles's homer put OC in front and the Cats stranded two base-runners in the bottom of the seventh. Leigh Leonard earned the win in relief for the Eagles while Taryn Hernandez was tagged with the loss in a complete-game performance.
GAME TWO
The Eagles opened the seventh inning with six straight hits and completed the two-game sweep with another dramatic win.
DaVee Croy's two-run triple gave OC a 5-4 lead and Kayla Jennings followed with a two-run homer. The Hillcats went down in order in the bottom of the inning as Leonard closed the door.
RSU led 3-0 after two innings. Hernandez belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first innings and Ashlie Fauchier ripped an RBI single up the middle in the second. The Lady Eagles tied the score with a two-run homer by DaVee in the fourth and an RBI single by Dobbs in the fifth. Brogdon swatted a solo shot in the sixth to regain the advantage for the Cats, but the lead wouldn't stand.
Hernandez (14-7) took her second loss of the day in another complete-game performance. She allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits while striking out two. Leonard picked up the complete-game victory for OC.
