Southern Nazarene Shuts Out Softball Cats, 3-0

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Rogers State struggled to get the bats going and was shutout 3-0 by Southern Nazarene in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament Friday at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

The Hillcats managed just four hits against SNU starter Jordan Simmons and dropped into the elimination bracket of the six-team tournament.

Katie Turner put the Crimson Storm on the scoreboard in a hurry with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the first innings. SNU added two more runs in the fourth on doubles by Aubrey Jones and Keli Billups. That proved to be more than enough run support for Simmons as she held the Cats scoreless in a complete-game performance.

RSU's best scoring opportunity came in the third inning. Katie Bointy led off the at-bat with a walk and Ashley Fauchier slapped an infield single to third base. However, Fauchier was called out for leaving first base early on a stolen base attempt and Brittany White promptly popped out to end the threat.

Taryn Hernandez (16-11) suffered the loss for the Hillcats after giving up three runs on eight hits. Simmons (17-8) earned the victory as she scattered four hits across seven innings of work. RSU did not tally an extra-base hit in the contest.

Rogers State (35-25, 16-19) will face Northwestern Oklahoma State in an elimination game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Rangers lost 4-2 to Oklahoma City in their first round game Friday afternoon.
