BETHANY, Okla. - After losing two straight road matches, the Rogers State women's soccer team bounced back in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener, defeating Southern Nazarene University 4-3 at Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
Junior Chelsea Myers scored her third goal of the season, putting the Hillcats on the board in the 10th minute of play. Abby Rickner sent a ball into the box where it dropped at Myers feet. Myers drilled a shot past SNU goalkeeper Rachel Wade to take a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Demi Mullin gave RSU a 2-0 advantage just five minutes later. The Claremore, Okla., native has scored four goals on the year.
RSU maintained a 2-0 lead until the 33rd minute when Morghan Saliba got in on the scoring action. Off a corner kick from Rickner, Saliba delivered a shot into the back of the net, allowing the Hillcats to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
Senior Tiffany Roberts kept the momentum going in the second half, scoring 24 seconds into the second half. Roberts fired a shot from 18-yards out past a diving Wade to put RSU up 4-0.
The Crimson Storm battled back from the 4-0 deficit, earning their first goal of the night in the 51st minute. Whitney Seaton scored off a corner sent in by Jackie Acevedo.
Acevedo cut the Hillcats lead in half in the 73rd minute, scoring her seventh goal of the year.
Buna De Cas put away a goal in the 88th minute to bring SNU within a goal of the Hillcats.
RSU was able to hang onto the win, with freshman goalkeeper Chelsea McMullin earning the win in goal.
The Hillcat women (5-2-0, 1-0-0 SAC) will continue their road stint on Friday, October 1st as they travel to Wayland Baptist University with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
