CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team won its second straight Sooner Athletic Conference match as they handed Oklahoma City University a 3-0 loss at Soldier Field on Friday evening.
Henrique Sousa ignited the scoring in the 25th minute of play. The senior won the ball in the midfield and dribble past two defenders to the top of the box where he slotted the ball back post.
Minutes later, RSU goalkeeper Jeremy Swift kept the Stars scoreless as he made a sliding save in a one on one breakaway by OCU midfielder Preston Cox.
The Stars aided the Hillcats with their second goal of the night. RSU crossed the ball into the box and Ryan Coffman headed the ball towards the goal. An OCU defender tried to head the ball out of danger but misdirected it into the goal.
The Hillcats registered three shots on goal in the first half and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
RSU put the game away in the 79th minute of play. Tyler Rector won the ball at the midfield stripe and chipped it down the line into space for Grant Smith. Smith ran onto the ball and beat the defender. The goalkeeper came off his line but Smith was composed, beat the keeper and slotted the ball far post.
Swift garnered the shutout win in goal for the Hillcats. The freshman from Bixby, Okla. recorded five saves as he earned his second straight clean sheet.
Rogers State (7-4, 2-2) returns to the pitch on Saturday as it hosts Lindenwood University at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
