Hillcats End Season With Loss to Chaps, 1-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Rogers State men's soccer team's season came to an end in the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the Hillcats fell 1-0 to Lubbock Christian on Monday afternoon in Lubbock.

Adam Goodnight broke the scoreless tie with the game-winning goal in the 76th minute of play. It all started when Stuart Cole won the ball and chipped it to Pernell Nembila who slotted the ball behind the defense to Goodnight who was left one on one with the goalkeeper. He fired the ball towards the far post beyond the reach of RSU keeper, Jeremy Swift.

The Hillcats controlled the offensive half, out-shooting LCU 23-18 while putting six shots on frame. RSU kept the Chaps goalkeeper busy throughout the game as Hunter Ganze made several diving saves.  However, the Hillcats could not find the back of the net.

With time running down the Hillcats got one final good opportunity in the 81st minute however, freshman Mohammed Shaban's shot was off the mark. From there the Chaps ran down the clock to secure the win.

Jeremy Swift, reigning SAC Defensive Player of the Week, registered the loss in goal for the Hillcats as he made four saves and allowed one goal. Ganze earned the win with a six-save shutout.

The Hillcats end the season with a record of 11-8-1, 5-4-1 in conference play. Six senior played their final game in Hillcat red and blue: Marko Bukva, Ryan Coffman, Griffin Kane, T.J. Martin, Henrique Sousa, and Chase Walker.
