CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State baseball team fell 7-3 in 10 innings on Friday afternoon to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at Hillcat Complex.
After rallying to a 3-3 tie, the Hillcats gave up four runs in the top of the tenth in the loss. Relief pitcher, Mario Mena entered the contest in the top of the 10th and struck out one batter before loading the bases and making an exit. Drew Taylor relieved Mena. Romus Cezar hit a two-run single to shallow center field however, the ball bounced over the glove of senior Brandt Barnes, allowing a third run to score. Cezar then scored on a pass ball before the Cats could get out of the inning. The Drovers retired the side in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win.
Mena (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Cats as he tossed one third of an inning and gave up three runs, two earned, on one hit with two walks and a strikeout.
Josh Goodman registered the win on the mound for USAO as he pitched five scoreless innings and allowed three hits with two strikeouts.
A pair of doubles in the second inning gave the Drovers a 1-0 advantage. USAO pushed its lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth with two runs on three hits. RSU rallied in the bottom of the inning and plated a pair of runs to cut the Drovers lead.
The Hillcats retired the side in the top of the sixth and earned the tying run in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single by Cody Campbell.
Rogers State (29-6, 10-4) will complete the series with USAO on Saturday as they travel to Chickasha for a twin bill. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
