CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep over Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon at Hillcat Complex in Claremore.
RSU belted 15 hits as it claimed a 9-2 victory in the opener and cruised to a 10-1 run-rule in the night cap.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats wasted no time in the opener as they posted nine runs in the first two inning of play en route to a 9-2 victory.
Amanda Edwards blasted a double to left-center field to bring Brittany White home after leading off the inning with a single and a stolen base. Shelby Brogdon followed with a first pitch homer over the centerfield fence. Logan Zamora doubled and rounded out the scoring in the inning as she scored on a ground out by Katrina Loy.
The Hillcats retired the side in the top of the second and used six hits in the bottom of the inning to plate five runs. White hit a single and stole second to start the inning. Taran Threet followed with a single to right field to send White home. Edwards and Brogdon hit back-to-back singles to plate Threet. A double by Dina Ortiz sent Edwards home. Katrina Loy blasted a single to the wall in left field sending Brogdon and Ortiz home.
RSU held the Lady Evangels scoreless until the fifth inning when MACU posted a pair of run on two Hillcat errors.
The Cats retired the side in the top of the sixth and seventh to register the 9-2 win.
Edwards (18-11) garnered the victory in the circle for the Hillcats. The sophomore tossed six and two third innings and allowed two unearned runs on one hit while fanning two. Jill Wilbanks (3-12) suffered the loss for MACU as she pitched four and one third innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
GAME TWO
RSU pushed runs across home plate in each of the first three innings of play to record the 10-1 run-rule after five innings.
The Hillcats plated four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Loy and Edwards delivered sacrifice flies to plate the first two runs of the inning. Brogdon scored on a wild throw and Zamora singled to score Ortiz.
RSU continued to pour on the offense in the second with four more runs. Threet singled to send Ashlie Fauchier home after leading off the inning with a double. Edwards followed with a double to send Threet and White home. Loy made it an 8-0 game as she singled to left to send Edwards home.
The Cats opened the third with a trio of singles. Threet plated Fauchier with the third single and Brogdon hit a sacrifice fly to score White. MACU managed one run in the top of the fourth; however the Hillcats held them scoreless in the fifth to complete the run-rule.
The early run support was more than enough for starter Katie Bointy (1-1) who tossed the complete game victory for RSU. The senior hurler allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Kelcie Wolf took the loss for the Lady Evangels as she tossed one innings and gave up eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits.
Rogers State (32-20, 9-11) will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Oklahoma Baptist to face the Lady Bison in a twin bill starting at 2 p.m.
