Barnes, Diamond Cats Blast Eagles, 16-2

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State cranked out 16 hits in its 16-2 run-rule victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday night at Hillcat Complex.

The Diamond Cats scored runs in six of their seven at-bats.  Senior Brandt Barnes belted a pair of home runs to drive in five of the Hillcats 16 runs.

Junior Randy Ramirez doubled in the bottom of the first to plate Cade McKewon who singled earlier in the inning.  Senior hurler Jordan Clark retired the side in the top of the second and the Hillcats tacked on four runs in the bottom of the inning.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the second, McKewon doubled to the right field wall to send Payden Yarmer and Taylor Estes across home plate.  Senior Colton West followed with a double to score Barnes and McKewon.

The Eagles chipped away at the deficit with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third. However, a three- run homer by Barnes with two outs in the bottom half of the inning pushed the Hillcats lead to 8-2.

After a scoreless fourth, Barnes struck again with a two-run blast over the right field fence.  RSU put the game on ice in the sixth as they plated six runs.

Keith Poverud and Frensly Martina led off the inning with back-to-back hits. Yarmer was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Rymel followed with a two-RBI double. Barnes was intentionally walked to load the bases for West who drove in a pair of runs on a single to centerfield.  Consecutive throwing errors by OWU allowed the final two runs of the inning to score.

Clark registered the win on the mound for the Cats. The right-handed hurler tossed two and two third innings while allowing just one hit and two unearned runs with four strikeouts. Eric Faust worked a scoreless one and one third inning while fanning three. Freddy Soto, Drew Taylor and Zack Williams each recorded one scoreless inning on the mound.

Rogers State (38-10) will return to Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday as they travel to Southern Nazarene for a single nine-inning game at 3 p.m.
