CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team battled Avila University for 110 minutes on Tuesday afternoon but neither team managed to score a goal as the game ended in a 0-0 draw at Soldier Field.
Both goalkeepers turned in a clean sheet as RSU sophomore Chelsea McMullin grabbed a season-high 12 saves, recording her first shutout of the year. AU's goalkeeper, Stephanie Gartner racked up nine saves in the tie.
RSU freshman Tara Garrett fired off the best opportunity of the first half with 1:15 to play as she blasted a shot from the top of the box that beat the goalkeeper but nicked the post and went out of bounds.
The Hillcats dodged a bullet in the 71st minute as the Eagles converted a goal that was called back due to a player standing offsides.
The Hilcats had two good opportunities with less than 15 minutes to play. Veronica Subu played a corner kick into the box. There was a scramble in front of the goal line but the AU defense was able to clear the ball away. Freshman Jordan Beasley delivered a shot on goal that was saved by a diving Gartner with less than seven minutes to play.
McMullin kept the Hillcats alive and sent the game into overtime. With time running out, Alyssa D'Egidio beat the defense and blasted the ball on goal but McMullin made the diving save.
The teams traded shots in the pair of overtime periods with the Hillcats missing several opportunities on offense. With less than five minutes to play in the second overtime, senior Shereen Clarke dribbled the length of the field and beat the defense but was unable to find the back of the net as her shot sailed wide.
Rogers State (1-0-2) returns to action Friday as they travel to Tulsa to take on NCAA Division I opponent ORU at 7 p.m.
