Hillcats Clip Cavaliers, 2-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Sooner Athletic Conference opponent St. Gregory's on Friday night at Soldier Field.

RSU came out strong in the opening stanza, pounding the goal with shots. The Hillcats finally found the back of the net in the 25 minute as senior Lauren Hager drove the ball into the box where Taylor Hallford poked it towards the back post for Raquel Chavez who drilled it into the net. It was the Broken Arrow, Okla. native's fourth goal of the season.

The Hillcats peppered the goal with shots throughout the opening half, firing 14 shots with nine of them on frame. However, they managed just a 1-0 advantage at intermission.

Jianna Piela gave RSU some insurance in the 74th minute as she headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Tara Garrett. It was the Muskogee, Okla. native's third goal of the season while Garrett registered her first assist.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Harris tallied her fifth shutout of the year as she made two saves. SGU managed just five shots in the game while RSU posted 32 shots with 16 on goal.

The Hillcat women registered an impressive October as they lost just one game, garnering four shutout victories and two draws. As they finish the regular season, the Cats are in the midst of a tight race in the league standings. Oklahoma City has the top spot locked up with the Hillcats holding down second place. However six teams still have a game to play over the weekend which could shuffle the standings heading into the SAC tournament.

RSU honored Hager, Jessica Turner and Veronica Subu, the three seniors on the women's soccer team, after the game as they play in their final regular season contest with the Hillcats.

Rogers State (12-3-2, 4-2-2) will compete in the SAC Tournament next Friday. Seeding, games times and game sites will be revealed early next week.
