Hillcat Softball Tour of Volunteer State Begins with Two Wins

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Rogers State softball continued its winning ways as the Hillcats swept Tennessee Wesleyan College in a doubleheader affair Monday at Athens Regional Park.

RSU took game number one 3-2 behind a two-run homerun by Linsey Curtis and the Cats closed it out with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE
Rogers State trailed early as the Lady Bulldogs tallied a run in the bottom of the first. But a two-run blast by Linsey Curtis in the top of the second inning put the Cats up 2-1. TWC answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2.

It wasn't until the top of the sixth that the Hillcats put the winning run on the board with a RBI by Taran Threet as the Cats scored the 3-2 win.

Laura Fleck earned the win in the circle going the full seven innings giving up two earned runs on five hits and fanning five batters.

Kelly Walker received the loss of the Lady Bulldogs pitching seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits and walking one.

GAME TWO
The Hillcats jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and added an insurance run in the fourth inning. RSU held TWC scoreless until the sixth when the Bulldogs posted a pair of runs as coach Mark Dicus' squad won 4-2.

Shona Guerrero went 2-for-4 at the plate while Linsey Curtis blasted a home run going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Fleck recorded the win after pitching four innings allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three. A'lex Koonce pitched three innings allowing just two hits and fanning two.

Brittany Kilduff was the loser allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and struck out three Hillcats in five innings of action. Sarah Kilgore pitched two innings giving up three hits in the Lady Bulldog loss.

Rogers State (25-4) travels to Bryan, Tenn. to face Bryan College in a doubleheader tomorrow, March 20 first pitch at 2 p.m.
