CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team picked up a pair of victories over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Monday night at Hillcat Complex in Claremore.
Junior Katrina Loy tallied all three of the Hillcats RBI in the opener as RSU earned a 3-1 victory. In the nightcap, RSU plated seven runs in the first inning en route to a 12-3 run-rule victory in five frames.
GAME ONE
Katrina Loy put the Hillcats on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-out single up the middle that allowed Ashlie Fauchier to score after hitting a single and stealing second earlier in the inning.
Loy struck again in the third frame as she belted a two-run home run over the left field fence. It was the Claremore, Oklahoma native's third homer of the season.
Freshman pitcher Laura Fleck held the Lady Eagles scoreless through five innings but OWU dented the scoreboard in the sixth with an RBI ground out by Courtney Carson. Fleck faced the minimum in the seventh to end the contest with a 3-1 Hillcat victory.
In the circle, Fleck (7-1) scattered four runs across seven innings, giving up one run with five strikeouts in the complete-game victory.
Carson suffered the loss as she pitched six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles opened the game with a run in the top of the first thanks to a RBI double by Allison Edwards.
However, the Hillcats answered with seven runs in the bottom of the frame and never looked back. Linsey Curtis registered a two-run single to start the scoring. Nikki Keck singled down the left field line to bring in two more runs and Megan Williams hit an RBI single to keep the offense going. Kaitlin McCool hit an infield single to send Kirstin Leppla home and Williams also scored on the play thanks to an OWU error.
Edwards drove in two more runs in the third for OWU with another RBI double. Once again, the Hillcats erased the run in the bottom of the inning by plating five runs of their own. With bases loaded, Fauchier hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield that was dropped by Edwards allowing two runs to score. Shona Guerrero followed with a two RBI single but was called out trying to stretch the single into a double. Loy hit a standup double off the wall in left-center field and stole third. Curtis brought her home with a single to left field.
Right-handed hurler Linsey Curtis faced the minimum in the fourth and pitched out of trouble in the fifth to end the game early.
Fleck (8-1) tallied the win in the circle for the Hillcats as she tossed 2.1 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with one strikeout. Curtis closed out the final 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit while fanning one.
Williams, Curtis and Guerrero each registered two hits apiece in the contest. Williams was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.
