Hillcat Women Edge Trojans, 2-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team won its fifth straight contest as the Cats  squeaked past Hannibal-LaGrange 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Soldier Field in Claremore.

The Hillcats pounded the goal with 17 shots in the game, nine of them on goal. The RSU defense held the Trojans to just five shots with three on frame.

Although the Cats fired several shots on goal, RSU took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute with some help from the Trojans. Freshman Taylor Hallford crossed the ball into the box and one of the defenders could not control it, deflecting the ball into the net for an own goal.

RSU took the 1-0 advantage into the locker room at the half. They then added an insurance goal in the 76th minute as Tara Garrett blasted the ball past the keeper near post from the top of the box after the ball was poorly cleared on a corner kick.

The Trojans cut the Hillcat lead in half in the 85th minute as Sarah Hammock drove the ball past the keeper on the back post.

The Hillcats held onto the lead and junior Jordan Harris registered the win in goal, allowing one goal while making two saves.

Rogers State (6-1) returns to action at Soldier Field on Tuesday as the Hillcats host Friends University (Kan.) at 5 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
