CLAREMORE, Okla.- The Rogers State men's soccer team could not contain NAIA No. 5-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan in the second half as the Eagles scored three goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the Hillcats at Soldier Field on Friday afternoon.
The Hillcats held off the Eagles for most of the first half and had several scoring chances of their own. RSU's best scoring opportunity came in the 25th minute as junior Niall Masterson blasted a free kick off the back post.
The Eagles managed to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the break as they found the back of the net in the 42 minute of the game. Jack McGowen dished the ball to Yusuf Bello who beat the goalkeeper back post to take the lead.
Defensive breakdowns led to both the second and third goals of the game as the Eagles capitalized on the Hillcats unorganized defense in the box. With a 3-0 lead, Lucas Almeida sealed the win, scoring the fourth goal in the 76th minute.
Rogers State (5-10-1) returns to action on Saturday as the Hillcats play their final home contest of the season against Heartland Conference foe Newman (Kan.) at 5 p.m. RSU will honor its men's and women's soccer seniors between games. The contest will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
