Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hillcat Women Sizzle Bacone, 9-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team tallied its first win of the season in overwhelming fashion on Tuesday night as the team throttled Bacone (Okla.), 9-1, at Soldier Field.

Cierra Lohaus put the Hillcats on the board in the 14th minute of the game as she headed the ball past the goalkeeper off a corner kick by Blair Thomas. Tara Garrett made it a 3-0 game with goals in the 23rd and 27th minute of play. Taylor Geissler dished the ball to Garrett at the top of the box as the Claremore, Okla. native buried it into the back of the net, near post. Four minutes later, Taylor Hallford sent the ball over the defense to Garrett who ran onto it and blasted it upper-90 backside.

Sophomore Carley Johnson made it a 4-0 game at intermission as she found the back of the net off a defensive miss-clear during a scramble in the box.

RSU continued to dominate in the second stanza as Blair Thomas added a goal in the 53rd minute of play. Ten minutes later Johnson tallied her second goal of the game as Thomas collided with the goalkeeper on a 50-50 ball in the box and it fell to Johnson's feet where she passed it into the net.

The following 10 minutes of play were bizarre as Warrior's Head Coach Tashana Taylor instructed her team to refuse to play in protest of the referees. With the Bacone team standing idle at midfield the Hillcats tallied two quick goals as Taylor Neubecker and Haley Wenlock each dribbled the ball the length of the field and passed the ball into the net. RSU then passed the ball amongst themselves for nine minutes before Coach Taylor subbed out several of her starters and the team played competitively the last 10 minutes of the game.

Thomas scored her second goal of the night after beating the defense and taking on the goalkeeper one-on-one, slotting the ball back post.

Despite dominating the game, the Hillcats were unable to produce a clean sheet as Marisa Levine spoiled RSU's shutout scoring from a corner kick in the 86th minute.

The 9-1 victory marks RSU's largest winning margin since the 2010 season where the Hillcats registered a 9-0 victory over Sooner Athletic Conference opponent St. Gregory's on October 12.

Rogers State (1-5-0) returns to action on October 5 as the Hillcats travel to Laredo, Texas for their conference opener against Texas A&M International at 7:30 p.m.
