Hillcats Break Out the Brooms on Senior Day

CLAREMORE, Okla.- The Rogers State softball team registered a 6-4 victory in its home finale to complete the three-game sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The Hillcats plated runs in each of the first four innings jumping out to a 5-0 lead. In the first frame, Cailin Simpson sparked the offense with a one-out single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Candace Monigold followed with a RBI single down the right field line to bring Simpson home and give RSU a 1-0 advantage.

In the second, Jamie Kowalick belted a two-out double to deep right center driving in Makenzie Kirk and Jackie Flores, who each singled earlier in the inning. Taran Threet and Carley Conley hit consecutive singles in the third and scored on a two-out double in the right-center gap by Kirk.

The Aggies started a rally in the fourth, plating two runs off a home run by Lilli Ward. The Hillcats drove in their final run in the sixth with a two-out RBI double crushed off the wall in right-center field by Monigold.

The Hillcats committed two errors in the seventh, giving the Aggies some hope as they plated a pair of runs on another deep blast. However, RSU ended the game with an impressive double play to seal the win as Yolanda Rios snared a liner and doubled-off the runner at first.

Rios registered the complete-game win in the circle for the Hillcats, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits with eight strikeouts.

Samantha Arledge was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts.

Rogers State (17-32, 9-15) returns to action Tuesday as the team travels to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
