Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hillcats Blow Past Lindenwood, 4-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. – On a windy Tuesday afternoon, the Roger State men's soccer team registered a 4-1 win over Lindenwood at Soldier Field.

Carson Lynn scored his first goal of the season to give RSU the advantage in the 25th minute of the game with a dish from Kevin Kwarteng.

The lead was short-lived as the Lions bounced back with the equalizer one minute later with an Andre Hayne goal. Neither team was able to post the go-ahead goal before intermission as the teams entered the locker room knotted, 1-1.

Kwarteng gave the Hillcats the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute after bending the ball upper-90, back post from a Niall Masterson assist. The dish was Masterson's team-lead seventh assist of the season to tie the single-season record.

Masterson registered a pair of goals to seal the win for RSU. The first came in the 63rd minute as he curled a right-footed shot inside the back post from 18 yards out. Jose Escobedo ignited the offense in the final goal. The senior capitalized on a defensive miscue, slotting the ball through the defense into space for Masterson, who dribbled past the defender and beat the goalkeeper on the far post.

Cody Gammill (9-4-2) showed why he is the reigning Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, making 11 saves in the contest while allowing one goal. Andrew Hamerlinck (5-5-2) was tagged for the loss with three saves while allowing four goals.

The win marked the Hillcats first win over the Lions, who now hold a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Rogers State (9-4-2) returns to the pitch on Saturday as the Hillcats travel to Oklahoma Christian for a Heartland Conference match up slated for noon.
