Beaird, Hillcats Bounce Bison for Fifth-Straight Win

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team battled to its fifth consecutive victory Saturday night with a 3-2 come from behind victory over Oklahoma Baptist at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats made a statement early with a goal in the sixth minute of play as Carson Lynn and Niall Masterson strung together a pair of passes, kicking the ball out to the top of the box for Dylan Beaird who buried a no-doubter upper 90, backside.

Beaird got his second chance of the match with 27 minutes to play in the half but the shot skipped just wide of the goal. The senior had all three of RSU's scoring opportunities in the first half.

OBU registered the equalizer with four minutes to play in the first frame. The ball pin-balled around the box after a Bison corner kick and was cleared to the top of the box where David Estrada fired it in the goal.

The teams were gridlocked, 1-1, at intermission but the Bison took advantage of RSU's offensive lull, taking the lead early in the second stanza, leaving the Hillcats in a chase for the tying goal.

Niall Masterson gave RSU the equalizer in the 63rd minute as Danko Kenjic chipped the ball over the defense to Masterson who fired it past the keeper.

The Hillcats were reenergized with the Masterson goal and took the lead five minutes later with Beaird's team-leading sixth goal of the season. It was the Tulsa, Okla. native's 14th career goal to tie Necas Collins in fourth on the all-time goals list.

Cody Gammill tallied his fifth win in goal for RSU, making a trio of saves while Truman Berghall suffered the loss for OBU.

Rogers State (5-1) returns to the pitch Tuesday as the Hillcats host William Jewell at 2 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Soldier Field. The game can be viewed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live
