Texas A&M-Texarkana Pushes Past RSU Women, 3-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to Texas A&M-Texarkana Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats dominated play for most of the second half, but could only find the back of the net once as the visitors stole a victory.

After several breakaway opportunities were thwarted by RSU goalkeeper Tayler Stover, the Eagles broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Samantha Sharpnack-Isom slid a ball into the penalty area for Leslie Arietta, who tallied the opening goal.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Hillcats opened the second half with a flurry of chances until finally capitalizing in the 57th minute. Marlaina Trahant was taken down inside the box and Taylor Geissler stepped up to the penalty spot, but her bid was stopped by a diving save from TAMUT's Gabriella Flores. Geissler got her own rebound and put the ball toward goal where an Eagle defender knocked it into the open goal evening the match, 1-1.

RSU continued to increase the pressure generating scoring chances off corner kicks five minutes later nearly taking the lead. Taylor Williams curled a ball to the head of former high school teammate Addy Pritchard, only to see her effort cleared off the line.

The Eagles sustained the Hillcat attack and netted the game-winning goal with 13:26 remaining in regulation. Sharpnack-Isom delivered a through ball to Emilee Bybee for a one-on-one shot that got past Stover. Haley Wenlock nearly tied the score again for RSU but her effort from 15 yards sailed over the bar with 10 minutes to play before Arietta added her second of the match in the 88th minute to seal the 3-1 win for TAMUT.

Stover finished the match with seven saves, including several on breakaway chances for the Eagles, but was tagged for the loss. Flores picked up the win for TAMUT making four saves.

The Hillcats (0-7 overall) close their three-match home stand Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. when William Jewell comes to Soldier Field for a non-conference matchup.
