ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered a 6-0 loss on the road at Ouachita Baptist in the 2015 season opener Friday at Kluck Field.
The defending Great American Conference champion Tigers broke a scoreless tie when Haley Hatcher scored twice in a five-minute span starting with a breakaway goal in the 31st minute. OBU added a third goal prior to the halftime break taking a 3-0 lead into intermission.
Three goals in quick succession doubled the lead for the Tigers early in the second half coming in a stretch of 10 minutes for a 6-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
The Hillcats had their chances, especially in the second half, out-shooting OBU for the contest 26-22 with both sides putting nine on goal.
Taylor Geissler nearly put RSU on the board in the 77th minute, but her drive was denied by the crossbar.
Taylor Stover took the loss in goal for RSU making nine saves while OBU's Lauren Llanes and Katy Alexander combined for the shutout turning aside nine.
Samantha Snow led the Hillcats with five shots putting three on frame in her navy and red debut.
RSU is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Denton, Texas at Texas Woman's University for a 3 p.m. start time.
