Hillcats Suffer 2-0 Setback at No. 15 MSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Rogers State men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback on Thursday night on the road at No. 15-ranked Midwestern State at the MSU Soccer Field.
 
The Mustangs tallied the game winner late in the first half and added another goal in the second period for the 2-0 score. The win is the fifth straight for host MSU.
 
MSU's Flavio Guzman scored the game-winning goal in the 40th minute as he knocked in a cross in the middle of the box. In the second stanza, Christian Okeke doubled the score to 2-0 in the 68th minute with a shot from the left side of the box to the right corner.
 
For the contest, the nationally-ranked Mustangs held a 22-7 advantage in shots, including a 12-3 edge in the first half. MSU put eighth shots on goal with RSU placing three shots on target.
 
Niall Smith registered three of the RSU shots, all in the first 24 minutes, with two of his shots on goal. He put his first two attempts on goal in the first 17 minutes of the contest. Chris Sowder added two shots with one shot on goal.
 
Cody Gammill started in goal and went the full 90 minutes, totaling six saves while allowing the two goals.
 
The Hillcats (6-4-3, 3-4-2) return home on Saturday (Oct. 15) to take on Newman at 2:30 p.m. at Soldier Field. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
