CANYON, Texas – The Rogers State men's soccer team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday as West Texas A&M topped the Hillcats, 3-0, at The Pitch at WTAMU.
The Buffs pounced on the Hillcats early with two goals in the first 27 minutes. WTAMU's Michael Garcia made it 1-0 early in the fourth minute when he hit a shot from the top of the box on the first shot of the contest. WTAMU doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 27th minute on a goal from Evan Bozman.
West Texas added a late goal in the 80th minute for the 3-0 score. A shot from outside the box found the lower corner for the 3-0 advantage.
The navy and red found it hard to adjust to the high line of the Buffs as the Hillcats were called offside six times in the game. RSU totaled four shots in the 90 minutes with two tallies on goal. Three of the four shots came in the first stanza. Sophomore forward
Kevin Kwarteng registered three of the four shots with the two shots on target. Freshman reserve
Chris Sowder finished with one shot.
Cody Gammill started in goal, going the first 84 minutes and totaling eight saves.
Walker Farrar came in to play the final 5:54.
RSU, which is 6-1-0 at home, is still searching for its first road win as the Hillcats dropped to 0-2-2 on the road this season.
The Hillcats (6-3-2, 3-3-1) continue their three-game road trip on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
