Lady Chaps Use Home Runs to Down Hillcats, 6-2

LUBBOCK, Texas – Host Lubbock Christian hit three home runs to pull away from the Rogers State softball team, 6-2, on Saturday in the final game of a three-game series at Plains Capital Park. The Lady Chaps scored their first five runs on those three homers to take all three games of the Heartland Conference series.

LCU started the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. Morgan Colburn hit the two-run home run to left field for the 2-0 lead after one inning.

The Hillcats got on the scoreboard in the second inning. After loading the bases and two outs, Jamie Kowalick reached on an error and Malori Moss scored to pull RSU to within one at 2-1.

RSU tied the score at 2-2 in the third inning. Moss singled up the middle to put runners at the corners, and Stephanie Schivally brought in pinch runner Carson DuBose from third on a groundout to the pitcher to even the score.

The Lady Chaps plated three straight runs on two home runs. A two-run homer to centerfield in the third inning put LCU back in front, 4-2. In the fourth inning, a solo shot to center made it 5-2. The final run scored on a double for a 6-2 score.

Schivally finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. The Hillcats totaled seven hits, and the Lady Chaps tallied 10 hits.

Jessica Christian started in the circle going the full six innings. She allowed the 10 hits and six runs. Christian registered two strikeouts.
