WICHITA, Kan. – The Rogers State baseball team fell, 2-0, at Newman to give the Jets the series win on Sunday at McCarthy Field.
NU scored its runs early with one run in each the first and third innings. A double off the wall in right center plated the first run in the first inning for a 1-0 score. The lead doubled to 2-0 in the third inning on a single to left field.
The Hillcats put two on with no outs in the fifth inning.
Zack Ashford hit an infield single to lead off the inning, and
Garrett Hall reached on a walk for runners at first and second. However, NU got a fly out and a double play to end the opportunity for RSU.
To start the seventh inning,
Chris Miguel singled through the infield and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Ashford, but back-to-back groundouts left Miguel at third to end the inning.
Tyler Kruse started and went seven quality innings allowing only the two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
NU starter Dylan Porter held RSU scoreless in seven innings with four hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
The Hillcats (25-22, 10-14 Heartland) return home for their final three games of the season against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday and Saturday in Claremore, Oklahoma. The series starts with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex.
