CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's soccer team rolled to a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at Soldier Field for the first league win for the Hillcats this season.
Kevin Kwarteng scored the game-winning goal in the 27th minute as he knocked in his own rebound in front from six yards out for a 1-0 edge.
Niall Smith nearly doubled the advantage to 2-0 early in the second half as his free kick from 30 yards went to the upper right corner, but OC's goalkeeper got a part of the shot to send it wide of the goal.
OC played the final 38 minutes a man down as Troy Tippeconnic received a red card in the 52nd minute.
The Hillcats capitalized on the man advantage as
Jordan Watson scored on a laser shot from 25 yards to the left corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute.
Abe Young put a header on goal that looked to nearly cross the line, but the score remained 2-0 after another close opportunity for the Hillcats.
RSU dominated play, holding a 20-7 advantage in shots, including a 9-0 edge in the second half.
Goalkeeper
Cody Gammill kept the Eagles off the scoreboard as he got the shutout win with four saves in 90 minutes of action. He moved to 4-2-2 on the season in goal.
