Hillcats Run Unbeaten Streak to Six with 1-0 Win at St. Mary's

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six straight games with a 1-0 victory at St. Mary's on Saturday at Sigma Beta Chi Field. The Hillcats improved to 12-3-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the Heartland Conference with the victory.

Senior midfielder Daisy Cardona tallied the game-winning goal, her team-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season, with a strike from 18 yards out that found the back of the net in the 64th minute. Cardona paces the Cats with 10 tallies on the season.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Rattlers double up the Cats in shots at 6-3, the visiting navy and red took control of the second half with an 11-4 edge in shots, including the game's only goal. For the contest, RSU held a 14-10 lead in shots. Melissa Cardenas and BreAnn Tolleson totaled a game-high three shots apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent registered five saves to earn the shutout win, her ninth shutout of the season. She set the RSU school record with her eighth shutouts on Thursday at Texas A&M International in a 2-0 win and extended it today to nine shutouts.

With the win, the Hillcats continue to rank second in the Heartland Conference standings with 25 points, one point in front of St. Edward's in third. Dallas Baptist University leads the league table with 29 points with two conference games left.

Along with the five-game unbeaten streak, the Hillcats are on a three-game winning streak with all three victories by shutout.
